Transport Manager Training

Turns Out, We’re Actually Pretty Good at This… We Just Forgot to Tell Everyone

🟢 80%+ pass rates month after month
🟠 100% PSV pass rate in July
🔵 And a team and bunch of students we probably don’t shout about nearly enough

There’s something we’ve discovered recently at NTP Online Learning.

And, to be fair, it’s a bit daft.

We’re absolutely rubbish at blowing our own trumpet.

Not rubbish at training people. Thankfully.

Not rubbish at supporting students.

Not rubbish at getting people through some pretty tough Transport Manager exams.

Just rubbish at stopping for five minutes, looking at what we’ve achieved together and saying:

“Do you know what? We’re actually bloody good at this.”

Very Yorkshire of us, really.

Keep your head down. Get on with the job. Put the kettle on. Sort the next problem. Answer the next student. Put the kettle on again because somebody forgot about the first brew. Help somebody who’s having a wobble about their exam. Answer another question.

Then suddenly another month has disappeared.

And somewhere amongst all that, we forgot to celebrate.

So, we’re changing that.

Because when you look at our results, there’s actually quite a lot to be proud of.

Our Transport Manager students are consistently achieving pass rates around the 80% mark month after month.

Read that again.

Around 80%. Consistently.

These aren’t just numbers on a spreadsheet to us, either.

Behind every single pass is a person.

Someone who has studied after a long day at work.

Someone who has revised while the kids are running around.

Someone who has probably stared at a case study at some ridiculous hour and wondered why on earth they decided this was a good idea.

Someone who has messaged us because they just cannot get their head around a particular subject.

Someone who has had days where they’ve thought:

“I’m never going to bloody remember all this.”

And then they do.

They sit the exams.

They wait for those results.

And they pass.

That’s what those percentages actually represent.

And then July’s PSV lot went and showed off…

We were already incredibly proud of maintaining pass rates around 80%.

Apparently, though, our Passenger Transport students decided that wasn’t quite good enough.

So in the July Transport Manager PSV exams, our students achieved a 100% pass rate.

🟢🟠🔵 ONE. HUNDRED. PERCENT.

Every NTP PSV student in that group passed.

Now, being Yorkshire folk, our natural reaction should probably have been:

“Aye, that’s alright.”

No. Absolutely not.

That’s not just alright.

That’s something worth shouting about.

And it’s something our students should be ridiculously proud of.

But here’s the important bit…

We don’t want to write one of those blogs where the training company takes all the glory.

Because we didn’t sit those exams.

Our students did.

We can provide the learning materials.

We can explain the complicated bits in plain English.

We can create the tests and practice papers.

We can answer questions.

We can provide tutor support.

We can give someone a bit of encouragement when their confidence has disappeared somewhere around drivers’ hours and financial standing.

And occasionally we can lovingly nag someone when we know they’re capable of doing more.

But ultimately?

The student has to do the work.

Those results belong to them.

And that’s probably the thing we’re proudest of.

That said… our team deserves a bit of credit too.

This is another thing we aren’t particularly good at.

Celebrating ourselves.

NTP isn’t some faceless training machine where you buy a course, get handed a pile of information and are left to crack on.

There are real people behind it.

People who genuinely care whether somebody passes.

People who will spend extra time explaining something because a student hasn’t quite got it yet.

People who notice when somebody is struggling.

People who celebrate when the results arrive.

And yes, people who occasionally need approximately 47 cups of tea to get through the week.

Our students’ results aren’t an accident.

They’re the result of a training system we’ve spent years developing, changing, questioning and improving.

If something isn’t working, we don’t just shrug our shoulders and say:

“Well, that’s how Transport Manager training has always been done.”

We look at it.

We change it.

We try something better.

Because there’s no point teaching something if people aren’t actually learning it.

Maybe being proud doesn’t mean being big-headed.

That’s probably the lesson we’ve learned.

We’ve always been slightly uncomfortable shouting:

“LOOK HOW GOOD WE ARE!”

It feels a bit… well…

Not very us.

But there’s a difference between bragging and being proud of something you’ve worked bloody hard to achieve.

There’s a difference between making ridiculous marketing claims and simply sharing the results your students are achieving.

And there’s definitely nothing wrong with celebrating the people who’ve put the work in.

So we’re going to get a little better at it.

We’re going to celebrate our students more.

We’re going to celebrate our team more.

We’re going to celebrate the little wins as well as the massive ones.

And occasionally we’re going to stop, put the kettle on and actually appreciate what we’ve built.

So, to our students…

To every person who’s studied with us.

To everyone who’s asked a question.

To everyone who’s attended a session.

To everyone who’s practised until something finally clicked.

To everyone who’s gone into an exam nervous and come out with the qualification they worked so hard for.

Thank you.

Those consistent 80% pass rates are yours.

And to our July PSV students…

100%.

You absolute show-offs. 😂

Seriously though…

What an achievement.

We’re incredibly proud of you.

Maybe NTP needs to start blowing its own trumpet a little more.

Although knowing us, we’ll probably have one quick toot…

then put kettle on and get back to work. ☕
